The Aarushi Talwar murder case went on for five and a half years
Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were held guilty for the murder of their 14-year-old daughter, Aarushi Talwar and their Nepalese domestic help, Hemraj. The Noida-based dentist couple slit their daughter's throat and murdered the help after allegedly finding them in an uncompromising position. The Aarushi Talwar murder case went on for five and a half years and the verdict was announced yesterday. The couple has been convicted under sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code; Rajesh Talwar has also been convicted on an additional charge under Section 203 for filing a false FIR. We spoke to our readers what they thought about the verdict.
Do you think justice has been served in the Aarushi Talwar murder case?
Normally the proverbial "justice delayed is justice denied" holds true for most cases. But it looks like justice has been served eventually in the Noida double homicide case. The Talwars belong to the upper class of society and efforts were made to botch the investigation as the Central Bureau of Investigation tried to frame three innocent acquaintances of the domestic help, Hemraj. This case has been a "whodunit" till date, but the evidence is definitely not in favour of the Talwars.
I don't think the parents killed their daughter. It's easy for us to sit here and pass a judgement when we don't have any clue about what actually happened that night. This includes the media too. Considering our judicial system, most cases run for years. People are thrown into it day in and out. I hope there was legitimate evidence and not what has been fed to them over time.
The verdict in my opinion does not have substantial evidence to support it. So, the parents being convicted of murder seems more like a case which had to be shut hurriedly owing to media pressure.
Yes. Justice has been served as they were found guilty. Their status was more important to them than their daughter's life.
It is hard to imagine that parents could be driven to do such a thing. While justice for the murder is served, I wonder to whom it is served to. The whole ordeal is devastating; there is justice, but no victory.
Going by the very characteristic of Indian trials, we know that they go on forever. Some say justice delayed is justice denied. Nonetheless, they ought to be punished since they were found guilty.
It took five and a half years to get a verdict on the case. I wonder how many more cases are piled up like this. Probably they are dead by the time they get justice.
